DOWN A SECOND TO BUY BREAD
(for Scott)

Summer is still ahead and i´m going to see you today.
Its not even noon and i´ve almost finished a packet of cigarettes whilst i get dressed to go fetch you.
A wrinkled white t-shirt and blue sport shorts.

I want it to appear as if today is not a special day. So that when you see me for the first time you´ll think i´m just going about my daily business, like buying bread or taking the toaster to the menders; not make you think i am going to greet the person i have been dreaming about for the past two months. I know it makes no sense, but its true. Sometimes when i notice i´m doing these things i realize how little one changes with time. I run out to the street like a kid running out at break-time.

Its too early. I sit by the sidewalk and smoke some more. The people that stay in Madrid in august move in silence, straight out of a Morneau film. I think that i still wouldn´t be able hear them even if they all yelled at the same time. My nervousness manages to isolate me even from the heat.
I dwell on what will happen when we meet. Two hours and three beers later you´ll confess you were just as nervous and that you carried in your wallet the address of a hotel.

You wouldn´t believe how joyful i get thinking you didn´t t have to use it.
